COMPARTIENDO SUEÑOS
El Diseño en la Cultura

Aquí están nuevamente, más allá de las fronteras diversas que separan a nuestros países, estas obras creadas bajo el signo común de la imaginación y la belleza por 16 diseñadores gráficos de Cuba y Estados Unidos.

Desde hace cuatro años hemos venido reuniendo vocaciones y talentos de ambas orillas para realizar juntos este proyecto de amistad y colaboración. El Center for Cross Cultural Design del Instituto Americano de Artes Gráficas (AIGA), el Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau y el Comité Prográfica Cubana hemos sido los entusiastas animadores de esta fiesta visual que ha trasladado su fecha de inicio para estos días del mes de octubre en que La Habana se convertirá en la capital mundial del diseño gráfico.

Esta nueva edición de Compartiendo sueños ha tomado como tema de inspiración y debate la relación entre diseño y cultura, que animará los intercambios del próximo Congreso Mundial de Diseño Gráfico ICOGRADA 2007.

Si en años anteriores disfrutamos las propuestas lanzadas a partir de Sueños por la paz y El amor lo conquista todo, ahora los diseñadores gráficos cubanos y norteamericanos han dialogado, reflexionado y compartido ideas e imágenes sobre la función comunicacional del diseño y su relación con la cultura en el mundo complejo e inestable en que vivimos.

La exposición mostrará, además, una selección representativa de las ediciones anteriores y tendrá como documentación audiovisual el video creado por el diseñador y artista digital Eduardo Moltó.

Nos alegra que los Salones Internacionales de Arte Digital realizados en la Habana desde hace nueve años hayan sido el espacio favorable para el nacimiento de esta voluntad de intercambio y creatividad que hemos desarrollado a través de los canales abiertos por las nuevas tecnologías.

A través de este modesto y silencioso trabajo creador hemos confirmado que las llamadas autopistas de la información pueden –y deben– ser vías de doble circulación para el tránsito libre y apasionado de la imaginación y la belleza.

Sharing Dreams
Design in Culture

Once again, leaving behind the various frontiers separating our two countries, we have before us these works created under the common mark of imagination and beauty by sixteen graphic designers from Cuba and the United States.

For four years now we have been bringing together vocations and talents from both shores in this project of friendship and collaboration. The Center for Cross Cultural Design from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau and the Comité Prográfica Cubana have been enthusiastic promoters of this visual treat that will now open on these early days in October when Havana will become the world capital of graphic design.

This new presentation of Sharing Dreams has chosen as a topic for inspiration and debate the relationship between design and culture which will be the basis of exchanges at ICOGRADA 2007, the next World Graphic Arts Congress.

If some years ago we enjoyed the proposals based on Sharing Dreams for Peace and Love Conquers All, today Cuban and American graphic designers have dialogued, mulled over and shared ideas and images on the communication function of design and its relationship with culture in the complex and unstable world in which we live.

The exhibit will also include a representative selection of former presentations and, as audiovisual documentation, a video by digital artist and designer Eduardo Molto will be screened.

We are pleased to see that the International Digital Art Exhibits held in Havana these last nine years have turned into an auspicious space for the emergence of a will to exchange and create developed through the channels opened by new technologies.

Through this modest and silent creative work we have confirmed that the so-called info highways may –and should– be two-way streets for the free and passionate traffic of imagination and beauty.
